Sendai was born in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. He entered the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in April 1991. His past positions include the Agricultural Production Bureau, Economic Affairs Bureau, Fisheries Agency, First Secretary of the Mission of Japan to the European Union, Statistics Department, Minister’s Secretariat, General Food Policy Bureau, Deputy Director-General of the Embassy of Japan in Russia, and Deputy Director-General for International Affairs of Minister’s Secretariat. He took up his current position in the Japan Sports Agency in October 2015 at the same time of its founding.
Sendai works in community development and urban revitalization focused on sports. Leveraging his experience in regional development at the MAFF, he provides assistance for sports promotion, activities to promote sports tourism, and sports facility establishment in regional communities by local governments and other parties.
He was an amateur boxer for four years in university.
