Director of Communications, Marketing and Strategy, London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC)
Ben Fletcher is the Director of Communication, Marketing and Strategy at the London Legacy Development Corporation and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. He is responsible for the long term planning and external affairs of the organisation tasked with delivering the 2012 legacy to regenerate the heart of east London. This includes the delivery of 24,000 homes, 40,000 jobs, attracting over 100 million visitors and the creation of £3bn of economic benefit for east London.
Since re-opening to the public, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been highly successful and has attracted well over 10 million visitors already. The former athlete’s village has now been converted and is home to 5000 people. All the sporting venues are occupied and have themselves attracted millions of visitors. The Stadium, in particular is now home to a Premier League Football team, has hosted matches during the 2015 Rugby World Cup and this year has just stage the most successful International Paralympics and World Athletics Championships ever.
He worked on London 2012 as Deputy Director of Olympic Security in the Home Office, the UK’s Interior Ministry, helping to design and deliver the successful Olympic Security Programme. He was a member of the Olympic Security Board who were collectively responsible for oversight and delivery of the security programme and management of the £1bn+ budget. Immediately after the Games Ben led a project working with overseas governments successfully using the success of 2012 to grow export opportunities for British companies.
Ben’s previous career spanned over 20 years in UK government, working with No 10, Cabinet Ministers, the Mayor of London, senior officials, national and international media and other stakeholders.
